Our Story

It Started With a Simple Question: Why Should Relief Mean Stopping?

For as long as she can remember, Carrie Cutler's period has been a monthly reminder that her body has its own agenda. Since puberty, menstrual pain hasn't just been an occasional inconvenience—it's been a constant companion, showing up uninvited and demanding attention at the most inconvenient times.

Growing up, the solutions were limited. The options in the pharmacy aisle were the same handful of pills and pads that had been there for decades. Online shopping wasn't yet the treasure trove of wellness solutions it is today. And when those over-the-counter remedies weren't enough? You just pushed through. You were told it was "normal." That it was "just part of being a woman."

But here's the thing: common doesn't mean acceptable.

The Fashion Industry Doesn't Stop for Your Period

As a California-based Revival Stylist, Carrie built her career on helping people look and feel their best. Her days were filled with client consultations, photoshoots, long hours on her feet, and the kind of energy that fashion demands. Being "on" wasn't optional, it was the job.

But every month, like clockwork, her period would arrive with its own demands. The cramps. The discomfort. The lower back pain that radiated down her legs. And suddenly, looking polished and feeling confident felt like an impossible ask.

She'd reach for heating pads, but they required an outlet and keeping still. She'd try the stick-on heat wraps designed for muscle pain, bulky, visible under clothes, and never quite right for menstrual cramps. Pain relievers helped, but they only went so far. And none of it—none of it was designed for someone who needed to keep moving.

The Moment It Clicked

One day, during a particularly demanding work week, Carrie found herself once again tethered to a heating pad in between client appointments, watching the clock and calculating how much relief she could squeeze in before she had to leave. She thought: This is ridiculous. We can send people to space, but we can't figure out discreet period pain relief?

That's when she realized: the problem wasn't that solutions didn't exist. It's that they weren't designed for real life. They weren't designed for women who work, travel, exercise, parent, socialize, and simply live during their periods. They were designed for women who could afford to stop.

But stopping wasn't an option. And it shouldn't have to be.

Building OVVA: Relief That Moves With You

Carrie didn't set out to start a wellness company. She set out to solve a problem that had followed her since she was a teenager. A problem that was personal, but also universal. A problem that millions of women faced every single month, but that no one seemed to be addressing in a way that actually worked for modern life.

She wanted relief that was:

  • Discreet - No cords, no bulk, no broadcast announcements
  • Effective - Real, sustained comfort for real, sustained pain
  • Portable - For the woman at the office, at the gym, on the plane, in the meeting
  • Designed for periods - Not repurposed muscle pain products, but something created specifically for menstrual discomfort

And so OVVA was born.

By Women, For Women—All Women

OVVA isn't just a product. It's a response to every time someone told us period pain was "just cramps." It's for every woman who's powered through a presentation, a workout, or a day with her kids while quietly suffering. It's for every person who's ever felt like their period was getting in the way of their life.

Created by a woman who intimately understands the challenge, OVVA is designed with all body types in mind. Because relief shouldn't be one-size-fits-all, and neither should the solutions we reach for.

We believe you shouldn't have to choose between comfort and your life. Between relief and showing up. Between managing your pain and being present.

This Is Just the Beginning

OVVA's mission is simple: to change the way we think about period pain and period relief. To create products that honor the reality of your life, your body, and your needs. To build a community where period pain is taken seriously, where conversations are honest, and where no one has to apologize for needing support.

Because your period is part of your life, but it doesn't have to run it.
